Is your institution planning on any initiatives to spread the word and get staff some prof dev in this area?

I'm trying to do that (especially, as we all do probably every day: getting the word out to faculty), but it is an uphill battle here at a college that has no librarian teaching tradition at all and where the library is part of the IT dept.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02710242563750467338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8411033736285455680.post-31903857331054965422011-04-22T09:20:28.844-04:002011-04-22T09:20:28.844-04:00Our Dean of Libraries recently came back from a co...Our Dean of Libraries recently came back from a conference and talked about how our jobs are focusing more on administration and teaching. I felt my MLIS program was heavy in the administration area - with a lot of attention being paid to the big picture, but it occurred to me that I have not yet heard of a graduate program that has some sort of teaching track.

Having taught before becoming a librarian, I am sometimes a little dismayed at how haphazardly we librarians treat teaching. It's something we need to be paying more attention to, and when we are getting it right, we do need to make sure people outside of our libraries know, as you point out here.Andrea Stanfieldnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8411033736285455680.post-15345094060688997042010-09-09T15:05:32.359-04:002010-09-09T15:05:32.359-04:00Thanks Nicole! A recent post on ILI-L about a Tx St U prog called Scholarship and Scones also just got me thinking more about ways to build up a community of student-scholars (which is always hard w/ distance learners) who could mentor each other and share experiences and best practices. I just pitched such an idea to one of our Director's of Academic Support who also chair's our annual Student Academic Conference event (where students present their work to their fellow students).Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02710242563750467338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8411033736285455680.post-64343376306148357612010-09-08T15:58:00.492-04:002010-09-08T15:58:00.492-04:00What you mention about community building for info...What you mention about community building for info lit learners is great. Often research is presented as a solitary activity where community seems mutually exclusive (unless there is a group project, but even then...). Social software can certainly promote more information sharing and multi-player research, but I think students also need to realize that research itself is truly just a conversation and if they can imagine themselves entering that conversation, then they might feel more comfortable doing it and working with others.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11545179272088769617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8411033736285455680.post-85615622732235797172010-08-12T15:28:32.304-04:002010-08-12T15:28:32.304-04:00Good luck with that Dana, sounds like it will be a...Good luck with that Dana, sounds like it will be a blast. Perhaps one way to get us to have disagreements and build a positive context for discussing failures is to move in the direction of a PM culture. Project management does many things well. In the context of your blog post, the need for a project to have well defined outcomes, costs, responsibilities etc. creates an environment where the disagreements are around the project - not the people. Additionally, PM gives you to tools to look back on the project successes and failures - project stakeholders have a structure for arguments and can focus on making the next project better by learning from mistakes. -@shawncalhounShawnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11307745322160354616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8411033736285455680.post-5296036705852399342010-01-29T12:31:55.336-05:002010-01-29T12:31:55.336-05:00I just found your blog!
